The initiative for a 13th AHV pension divides the SVP. “No to the 13th AHV pension, no to the break with generational solidarity” is the motto of the Sünneli party. But many of your voters have a different opinion.
According to a study by the Sotomo research institute on behalf of the Trade Union, things are looking good for a 13th AHV pension. 71 percent of respondents agree with the union’s initiative. Even the SVP section of Geneva has already expressed the yes slogan.
Now SVP doyen and former federal councilor Christoph Blocher (83) have also joined the debate. In the latest episode of his program ‘Teleblocher’ he appeals to the conscience of his people and says: ‘We have to say no to that!’
“I would also like a 13th AHV pension”
The SVP thought leader gives the initiative a good chance at the ballot box. Rhetorically he asks: “Who wouldn’t want a 13th AHV pension?” He keeps hearing from his base: “In Bern you have money for everything. Then it no longer matters at the AHV.” And that is exactly the difficult point of the subject, according to Blocher in a conversation with moderator Matthias Ackeret (60).
“I would also like a 13th, 14th and 15th pension,” the billionaire says on his show. And expresses understanding for everyone who supports a 13th pension. But at the same time you ask who should finance it. There is no money for it at all. ‘Should we perish as a country? Should we also go into the hole?” Blocher asks heretically.
Instead, wage contributions to AHV and VAT should be increased. Simply put: that takes away everyone’s purchasing power. The consequences: “You get less pay. Moreover, the increase in VAT leads to inflation!”.
Parallel to the “6 weeks holiday for everyone” initiative.
Blocher argues: First, there are additional benefits for those who are not financially wealthy. And secondly, the welfare benefits such as premium reductions.
Because that is also the task of a party: to be against something that everyone actually wanted. In the program he draws a parallel with the referendum “6 weeks holiday for everyone”. It was said everywhere that the SVP’s cost criticism had no chance because everyone wanted more holidays. In the end we won the vote. (oco)
