Do I need a 13th AHV pension? Voters will decide this on March 3.

The initiative for a 13th AHV pension is causing discussion in the SVP sections in Western Switzerland. In Vuarrens, about 150 SVP deputies recommended voting no to the 13th AHV pension, as the SVP Vaud announced on Friday.

The result was relatively close. There were 70 no votes, 41 yes votes and 20 abstentions. This corresponds to a majority of 53.4 percent. The debates were lively, local media reported. The vote was eagerly awaited, especially as the Geneva section had previously adopted the yes slogan.

The SVP Vaud recognizes the need to increase the purchasing power of the middle class and therefore of many retirees, but refuses to try the poisoned gift of the unions, the statement said. “What the left pretends to give away with its right hand, it will get back with its left hand through an increase in VAT and wage deductions,” says state councilor Jacques Nicolet (58) in the communiqué.

SVP of Geneva supports initiative

In western Switzerland the first cantonal divisions left in December. The Geneva branch of the SVP decided to support the initiative, the SVP Lower Valais decided to release the votes. The Neuchâtel section recommends a no, and the Law section should comment shortly.

The popular initiative of the Swiss Federation of Trade Unions (SGB) and organizations of women and pensioners demands a “thirteenth” for old-age pensions, as many working people know. In concrete terms, recipients of an AHV pension should be entitled to an annual supplement equal to one-twelfth of their annual pension. The Federal Council and Parliament recommend a no to the initiative, which the population will decide on March 3. (SDA)
