The Swiss Association of Public Employees (VPOD) is against the fundamental restructuring of financing in the healthcare system. He launched his referendum campaign on Friday against a bill passed by parliament in December.
The goal of the so-called monism template is to finance outpatient and inpatient healthcare services from a single source in the future. Nowadays, outpatient treatments are paid exclusively by health insurers, using premium money. At least 55 percent of inpatient services are covered by the cantons. The health insurers pay the rest.
50,000 signatures needed
Opponents of the proposal argue that it is dangerous for nursing staff, the quality of care and for the insured. The reform shifts power from the cantons to the health insurers.
The VPOD union has until April 18 to collect the 50,000 signatures needed for the referendum. (SDA)
