Scolding: This is how you know Jacqueline Badran.

It is now common knowledge that she can be emotional. Normally, Jacqueline Badran (62) gets terribly upset – about rent fraud and other injustices, but also about journalists, federal councilors and colleagues in parliament. Anger is the emotion most people associate with Badran.

It now became clear that the SP National Councilor from Zurich also has a tender, sensitive side. In the SRF “Club” she cried in front of the camera. “Poor despite working?” was the title of the program, which was about the fact that more and more people in Switzerland are affected by poverty or are at risk of falling into poverty. Moderator Barbara Lüthi shared a small excerpt from the show on X.

After a recorded video showing the national strike in 1918 and the payment of the first AHV pension of 40 francs in 1948, Badran was overcome with emotion: “On the way to the studio I thought about it again – I would do this would like to take this opportunity to thank you. With my ancestors from the SP and the trade unions, who fought for all this… that was tschudered mi grad,” Badran said with tears in his eyes and struggling to control himself.

Not the first tear

She is almost 100 percent certain “that we wouldn’t be able to do this today,” she says, referring to the social security systems AHV, IV, accident insurance and unemployment insurance.

The fact that Badran was built close to the water became clear in February 2022: after the vote on the stamp tax – Badran was the head and face of the referendum – she cried tears of relief. (sf)
