Swiss Mountain Aid started a solar program in 2023: so far, photovoltaic systems have been mainly implemented on mountain farms.

“During the summer I had twice as much to do as usual,” Peter Pauli, the expert responsible for the two cantons of Appenzell, said in a statement on Thursday. The workload of the 38 experts who examine incoming applications and visit companies on site has also increased significantly in other areas.

The people of Berghilfe have done special work for the new solar program: the volunteers have worked on it for a total of 1,800 hours. In addition, there were another 7,600 hours in which they investigated the other usual requests. In addition to the 280 solar energy projects, Berghilfe supported 550 other projects.

According to the statement, the solar program attracted great interest from the start. The first mining companies submitted applications for photovoltaic systems immediately after the launch. So far, projects have mainly been realized on mountain farms.

The Swiss Mountain Aid, which is funded exclusively by donations, covers up to half of the investment costs for solar energy projects. The financial situation of those wanting to build and the available government financing are taken into account. The solar program, which started in spring 2023, is initially limited to the end of 2024. (SDA)
