The new Federal President Viola Amherd strengthens…

The change of department of Elisabeth Baume-Schneider (60) was an individual decision, says Viola Amherd (61) in the Saturday broadcast on Radio SRF. She sees no political damage.

“If you don’t feel comfortable in one department or feel that you could achieve more in another department, it is certainly legitimate to change,” says Amherd.

Baume-Schneider only announced her decision to move from the Justice Department to the Interior Ministry shortly before the meeting started, Amherd said. But contrary to media claims, she was informed by Baume-Schneider about the division division more than fifteen minutes before the start of the meeting.

No problem

She is not worried about politics, Amherd assured in the Saturday broadcast. “I don’t see the political damage,” Amherd said. After all, specialists are working in the departments. And successors would be well trained. “Someone who is elected to the Federal Council must also be able, and this is certainly the case here at Beat Jans, to quickly learn the tricks of the trade,” says Amherd.

Furthermore, no one raised any concerns at the department allocation meeting. “That will now be announced later. “I don’t know where that came from,” Amherd said.

Amherd also commented on rumors that she would step down as federal president at the end of her year. ‘This is pure speculation. I am chosen for years, I like it very much. If I stay as healthy and fit as I am now, I don’t see that happening,” she continued. (SDA)
