It is the first time that Parliament has elected Edöb. The new data protection law stipulates that the National Council and the Council of States are the electoral authorities and that the Edöb is no longer appointed by the Federal Council.
Because Lobsiger was running for a third and final term, his position was not announced. The court committee proposed to the council to confirm the doctor of law in office for the years 2024 to 2027. There was no opposition to this.
Lobsiger has worked for the federal government since the early 1990s. Stations included the Federal Bureau of Justice (BJ) and the Federal Bureau of Police (Fedpol). Between 2000 and 2005, Lobsiger founded and directed part-time postgraduate studies in combating white-collar crime and the Competence Center for Forensics and White-Collar Crime at the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences.
