The Palestinian aid organization UNWRA is regularly accused of having close ties to terrorists.

This means that the two main financial differences still exist in the 2024 budget. By 108 votes to 85, the National Council stood by its previous decision vis-à-vis UNWRA. In doing so, he followed the request of a small minority of his finance committee. It concerns approximately 20 million francs.

The week before, the Grand Chamber had accepted an individual proposal from Ausserrhoden’s SVP National Councilor David Zuberbühler (44). Zuberbühler justified his demand for expulsion by saying that UNRWA employees had glorified terror against Israel and that the organization was taking a one-sided position in the Middle East conflict.

The other side argued in vain on Monday that UNWRA’s work is important for the people of the Gaza Strip and that Switzerland’s reputation could be damaged.

No money in regional policy funds

When it comes to promoting locations in the regions, the Finance Commission successfully applied to maintain the difference with the Council of States and not pay anything into the regional policy fund. The Greens tried in vain to follow the line of the small chamber. The majority of the center faction abstained from voting.

Now it is once again the turn of the Council of States. He will discuss the budget for the third time on Tuesday. (SDA)
