Unia explained to the media in Bern on Monday that the “irresponsible attitude of the employers’ organization and the lack of courage on the part of the Federal Council” are responsible for the failure of the mediation. She spoke of a “declaration of bankruptcy with a view to the employers’ refusal”.
There is great anger after Minister of Economic Affairs Guy Parmelin (64) suspended mediation between the social partners on the unlawful dismissal of trade union members. Unia therefore announced a people’s initiative to protect against dismissal.
Bad numbers for Switzerland
The union recalled that in 2019 the International Labor Organization (ILO) placed Switzerland on the blacklist of the forty most serious cases of violation of the ILO conventions.
On Monday morning, the Ministry of Economy, Education and Research (WBF) announced that its head, Parmelin, had temporarily suspended mediation between the social partners on the unlawful dismissal of trade union members. The reason given was that an amicable settlement was not currently possible and that the resources were needed for the EU file.
On the employers’ side, it was said that the Swiss Employers’ Association (SAV) supported the Federal Council’s decision. The SAV also shares the Federal Council’s assessment that the social partners are not yet close to a rapid conclusion of the mediation talks. So far, the talks have only been suspended and not broken off. (SDA)
