It was a mixed week for VBS boss Viola Amherd (61). In the elections for the Federal Council, the woman from Valais only achieved the second best result – and therefore did worse than four years ago. In the election for federal president, the centrist representative received a lesson from parliament: the radiant woman received a meager 158 votes. She did slightly better than Alain Berset (51): Last year, the politically distressed Minister of Health was elected Federal President with 140 votes.
Members of Parliament apparently hate the series of accidents at the Ministry of Defense, which has added a new chapter since this week.
Background: Six months ago, Amherd set up a study committee under the leadership of former employers’ chairman Valentin Vogt (63), “which should provide impetus for safety policy in the coming years”. The spectrum of scientists in this committee ranges from FDP party leader Thierry Burkart (48) to the ‘NZZ’ house philosopher Katja Gentinetta (55) to Wolfgang Ischinger (77), head of the Munich Security Conference for many years.

His leadership of the scandal-plagued arms company is controversial. But Amherd’s blessing is certain for him, because Perrin is the brother-in-law of her closest confidante Brigitte Hauser-Süess (69).
