In Switzerland there are more infections with Covid-19 than with the flu. The BAG’s collection systems currently measure 45 Covid-19 cases compared to seven flu infections. The epidemiological threshold for the flu was exceeded at the beginning of November, the BAG announced on Monday at the request of the Keystone-SDA news agency.
Outpatient consultations in Switzerland and Liechtenstein indicate an increase in respiratory infections since the start of the season. Compared to the previous two weeks, the consultation rate for flu-like diseases has increased, the BAG writes in its information portal for communicable diseases. Mandatory laboratory reports on influenza are still at a low level, but are increasing significantly. The data refers to the week of November 18 to 24.
Ticino and western Switzerland affected
Extrapolated to 100,000 people, 160 affected people request a medical consultation due to an acute respiratory infection and 90 people due to a flu-like illness. Data from the National Reference Center for Influenza shows 45 confirmed cases of Covid-19, compared to seven flu cases. Most laboratory confirmations of these cases are in Ticino and western Switzerland.
The BAC data is based on information from the Sentinella reporting system. Doctors who work on an outpatient basis provide information about first consultations due to acute respiratory infections or flu-like illnesses in the consultation room or during home visits. Weekly projections are made using the reports.
