The Estates and National Council want to take action against scenes like this in a Lausanne park with a national litter ban. (archive image)

On Thursday, during a review of the Environmental Protection Law, the small chamber tacitly approved the National Council’s decision to include such a passage in the law. The regulation stipulates that the cantons can provide exceptions to this litter ban for events requiring a permit.

The national litter ban is not yet a done deal: the revision of the Environmental Protection Act, initiated by a committee of the National Council, has yet to clear up and survive the final vote. The central goal of this legal revision is to strengthen the circular economy in Switzerland. There is already a ban on litter in certain cantons.
