Due to high personnel costs, which account for three quarters of total expenditure, daycare centers do not have much income, the Swiss Childcare Association (Kibesuisse) announced on Thursday. Two-fifths of the childcare centers surveyed closed the 2022 calendar year with a profit and a third with a loss. 13 percent of the childcare centers surveyed did not want to provide information.

Another characteristic of the sector is the rate of fluctuation. The outflow rate from daycare centers is 30 percent, the report said. When requested, this rate is normally 10 percent.

On behalf of Kibesuisse, the Infras research institute carried out statistical studies at daycare centers in Switzerland in the spring of 2023. At the end of 2022, 31,632 children were cared for in the 621 childcare centers surveyed.
