There was fierce debate in Switzerland as to whether decommissioned Leopard 2 tanks should be sold back to Germany.

Difficult times for SP federal councilor Alain Berset (51): Not only during the corona pandemic, but also last March, he and his family were threatened because of the controversial tank issue, according to research by SRF Investigative.

One day in March, the Federal President received an email from a German citizen at 11:30 p.m. He asked the SP magistrate to send Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine within a few days. If Berset did not comply with this demand, his wife and children would be brutally tortured.

Berset had previously expressed skepticism about the controversial tank issue surrounding Germany’s buyback of Leopard 2 tanks.

Threat convicted

Now the email writer has been held responsible for attempted violence and threats against authorities and officials. According to a criminal order from the Federal Prosecutor’s Office, he was sentenced to a suspended fine of 900 francs. He must pay 500 francs for the costs of the procedure.
