The last word in the case of Bernhard Diethelm (40) may not have been spoken yet. In July, the Zurich court sentenced the politician to a suspended prison sentence of eight months and a fine for, among other things, assault and prohibited pornography. The Public Prosecution Service has appealed against this. As soon as the written judgment is available, she will make a final decision. Diethelm also does not rule out going further with the decision.
One thing is certain: Diethelm’s political career will soon be over. As the “Bote der Urschweiz” reports, Diethelm is withdrawing from the canton council after eight years and will not participate in the elections next March. An “excellent successor” has been found in landlady Sabrina Kessler-Schnyder from Vorderthal, the newspaper quotes a statement from SVP Wägital.
SVP membership suspended
Under pressure from the canton party, Diethelm voluntarily suspended his SVP membership after the verdict. And this continues until the legally binding judgment is available. Since then, he no longer participates in meetings or other party events.
