The decision will be made this morning behind the doors of room 286 in the Federal Palace. The SP faction determines which two candidates it will nominate as successor to federal councilor Alain Berset (51).
Yesterday, the faction had already made an important provisional decision: it will go to the elections on December 13 with a two-party ticket instead of a three-party ticket. The Social Democrats want to have more control over who ultimately joins the government.
You can choose from these six candidates:
- Evi Allemann (45): The Bernese government member sat in the National Council until 2018. She is expected to have a good chance of getting on the ticket, even though the canton of Bern is already represented in the Federal Council by Albert Rösti.
- Defeat Jans (59): He is district president in Basel-Stadt and politicized in the National Council until 2020. It is not impossible that he will be nominated, but he is not the favorite.
- Jon Pult (39): The youngest candidate has only been a member of the National Council since 2019. The trilingual Graubünden native is considered a great political talent and ultimately the one with the best chance of being nominated.
- Matthias Aebischer (56): The National Council candidacy was quite unexpected. He has few chances – and not just because he is also from Bern.
- Roger Nordmann (50): The handicap of the National Council of Vaud lies in its origins. He would be the fourth Latin in the state government. However, it is not impossible that he gets the ticket.
- Daniel Jositsch (58): The Zurich Council of States was the first to announce his candidacy. It is very unlikely that he will be nominated.
Several rounds of voting will take place until the SP ticket is available for the Federal Council elections. The group wants to inform about the results of the elections around 12:30 p.m. You can follow the media conference live at Blick. (lha)
