Center chairman Pfister (r.) and national councilor Bregy will speak in Bern in mid-December about the elections for the Federal Council.

The decision on the MCG was taken unanimously, Mitte President Gerhard Pfister said at a Point de Presse at the Federal Palace in Bern on Friday. The conclusion was drawn that the political positions of the two parties were too far apart.

Geneva’s newly elected MCG state councilor Mauro Poggia was particularly interested in joining the center faction. He started his political career with the then CVP.

Pfister said the leadership of the centrist parliamentary group had physically met Poggia once and that they had had “constant and lively exchanges” until Friday’s parliamentary group meeting.

The MCG’s two national councilors, Roger Golay and Daniel Sormanni, want to join the SVP group. In this context, the Center chairman spoke of too different signals from the MCG. He also pointed out that according to the law, all members of a party in the federal parliament must belong to the same parliamentary group. (SDA)
