Farah Rumy (SP/SO) and her Bern councilor and party colleague Andrea Zryd during a test session in the Chamber of the National Council.

On the official reception day, the newly elected council members received a brief introduction to the services provided by the Parliamentary Services. There was information about the infrastructure, compensation and security in the Federal Palace. They were welcomed by Martin Candinas, President of the National Council (centre/GR).

A total of 62 people took part, meaning almost all of the newly elected officials, said Andreas Schilter of the parliamentary services when asked. The event was very well received.

According to Schilter, the focus was on concrete information for the newly elected parliamentarians. This included how to use the company database – or what to do if someone wanted to make a request or invite a group and show them around the Federal Palace.

The newcomers were also able to take their seats in the National Council Chamber for the first time. The participants were also explained how the voting system works. They could also have tried and adjusted the system experimentally, says Schilter. After the official part, a joint lunch was on the program.

It was fun and impressive to be in the National Council Chamber for the first time, newly elected Solothurn SP national councilor Farah Rumy told the Keystone-SDA news agency. She is very much looking forward to the coming term of office.
