After Geneva State Councilor Lisa Mazzone was not re-elected, the Greens will no longer hold the presidency of the Council of States in the coming years. The office goes in turn to the four factions in the small chamber: SP, FDP, Center, SVP.
This is what the faction leaders in the Council of States propose, the parliamentary services announced on Friday on the short message service X (formerly Twitter). Mazzone should actually have held office for the Greens from December 2024. However, she was unable to get re-elected in the small chamber.
The members of the bureau will be elected by the council on December 4. The center group in the Council of States has 15 members, followed by the FDP with 11, the SP with 9 and the SVP with 6 members. The Greens lost their group strength after the elections. They only have 3 members in the small chamber instead of the previous 5.
It is still unclear whether newly elected Councilor Mauro Poggia (MCG/GE) will join a group. (SDA)
