Science and politics did not work together sufficiently during the corona pandemic. Researchers drew this conclusion in the synthesis report on the National Research Program “Covid-19” (NFP 78).

The partnership between the scientific community and government institutions was not sufficiently developed to withstand the enormous pressure of a pandemic crisis, the final report published on Tuesday said.

But in principle a positive balance

In general, the researchers draw a positive conclusion. However, the research program has made a constructive contribution to the scientific understanding of the pandemic in Switzerland, the report said.

NHP 78, funded with R20 million, was launched in April 2020 with the aim of gaining new insights into Covid-19, developing recommendations for clinical management and healthcare, and advancing the development of vaccines, treatments and diagnostics. (SDA)
