From Saturday, the speed limit on the A1 motorway between Oftringen (photo) and Suhr in the canton of Aargau will be 100 instead of 120 for safety reasons.

The decision to reduce the speed was taken for safety reasons and in consultation with the Aargau cantonal police, Astra announced on Friday. As the surface is worn, grip is reduced, Astra media spokesman Samuel Hool said when asked by news agency Keystone-SDA.

The discount applies until the weather and temperature allow the decking to be repaired. According to Astra, renovation work will start next spring.

The approximately 15 kilometer long section of the A1 between the Wiggertal junction and the Aarau Ost junction has been in use since 1967. According to Astra, the last complete renovation took place in 1998 and 1999. In some places the surface was last renewed in 2010.

During the construction work for the deck replacement, which will last approximately a year and start in the spring of 2024, four lanes will always be available during the day. The work was carried out in sections with a length of approximately five kilometers, using a so-called “4/0” traffic routing. This means that all four lanes are on one side of the road, while the other side of the road is clear for construction work.

According to Astra, lane narrowings and local, temporary speed reductions are to be expected. However, there are no plans to completely close the section of road, which is used by more than 100,000 vehicles every day. (SDA)
