Macron will be received with military honors at the Bundesplatz next Wednesday (November 15) by the Federal Council in corpore, as the Ministry of the Interior (EDI) writes. Afterwards, official speeches are planned in the Federal Palace and political discussions in the Bernerhof.
The communiqué states that bilateral and cross-border relations with France are of great importance in various areas. The EDI mentions economy, research, energy, environment, health and mobility.
In addition to bilateral dossiers, issues of European security and prosperity and Switzerland’s objectives for the stabilization and further development of the bilateral path with the EU should be discussed. Only on Wednesday did the Federal Council decide to draw up a draft mandate for new negotiations with Brussels.
Current international issues are also discussed, as well as cooperation in the UN Security Council, international Geneva and science diplomacy. The last time a French president came to Switzerland on a state visit was François Hollande in 2015.
On the second day of the state visit, Federal President Alain Berset and Macron travel to Lausanne to the Jean Monnet Foundation. The archives of the pioneer of European unification are stored there.
At the University of Lausanne, Macron will give a lecture to students about the challenges facing the continent. A visit to the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) in Geneva is also on the program.
