The SBB must compensate season ticket holders and create incentives for day trippers: this is what Ticino district president Raffaele De Rosa is demanding after the delayed reopening of the Gotthard base tunnel became known.
With regard to the 2024 high season, the SBB should “use all possibilities” to improve connections with southern Switzerland, De Rosa said when asked by the Keystone-SDA news agency.
Discounts for day trippers
The federal government and the SBB must also consider compensation for season ticket holders. Incentives such as discounts for day trips to southern Switzerland would also be useful, as day trips have declined since the Gotthard Base Tunnel accident, De Rosa explains.
The Ticino government was generally disappointed with the delayed reopening of the Gotthard Base Tunnel. The accident revealed the vulnerability of the north-south connections, De Rosa concluded. As the only canton located on the south side, the connection with the rest of Switzerland is of fundamental importance for Ticino. (SDA)
