Civil protection employees will receive slightly more wages from next year. This is adjusted to the salary in the army.

Civil defenders can be happy: from next year they will receive slightly more wages. The Federal Council decided this on Wednesday. Civil protection wages will be increased because wages in the military increased at the end of 2022 and civil protection wages are based on those of the military.

Against the wishes of Defense Minister Viola Amherd (61), parliament decided to adjust soldiers’ wages to inflation in recent years. Amherd described the adjustment at the time as purely symbolic and the costs were therefore disproportionate. An increase of 2.50 francs per day per soldier means an additional expenditure of 13.5 million francs for the army.

Additional costs total 1.3 million

But now the state government wants to guarantee equal treatment again and is therefore amending the civil protection regulation early next year. Given the current inventory and working days, the amendment of the Civil Protection Regulation will result in additional costs of approximately 1.3 million francs per year. According to the announcement, these will be borne by the provider. Usually these are the cantons.

The last time the pay was adjusted was in 1987. It depends on the rank. For example, in the army, recruits used to receive four francs a day. For soldiers it was five francs and for corporals seven francs. (dba)
