In 2022, a total of 2,079 couples got married in the Canton of Lucerne. That is 226 more than the year before, the Lucerne statistical agency Lustat announced on Monday. The registered partnerships of 90 couples were converted into marriages.
The statistics agency assumes that the large increase in the number of marriages can be attributed to the fact that fewer marriages took place in previous years than in previous years due to the Covid-19 pandemic. According to Lustat, the most popular wedding date was February 22, 2022. A total of 50 couples said yes to each other on this date.
At the end of 2022, 196,755 people or 46.3 percent of the permanent population in the Canton of Lucerne were single, making them the largest marital status group by number. Slightly fewer people got married: a total of 176,873 people.
According to Lustat, the trend for marriages to be concluded later today is also reflected in the average age of those getting married for the first time: in 2022, women in the canton of Lucerne got married for the first time at an average age of 30.4 years. They married for the first time in 1992 at an average age of 27.0 years. Men from Lucerne also take longer to get married for the first time: their average age has risen from 29.5 to 32.4 years in the past thirty years.
While the share of married people and widows has decreased over the past twenty years, the share of divorced people is increasing. The share of single people has remained virtually unchanged over the past twenty years. (SDA)
