Whether it is forest care, the military or community service, every young person in Switzerland must contribute to the community and the environment. This is what the Service Citizen Initiative demands. She wants to start the debate about the conscription system.
The initiative was submitted to the Federal Chancellery on Thursday with 107,764 signatures. The initiators want to supplement Article 59 of the Constitution, which regulates military and alternative service.
The intended size of the army remains
They demand citizen service for all, for the benefit of the community and the environment. This means deployment in the army or an equivalent militia service. The target numbers of the army and civil protection must be guaranteed.
As internationalization continues, there are more and more people who traditionally have little participation in the militia system and are excluded from positions in local government, the initiators say. They want to unleash the potential of everyone: women, foreigners and those who are not suitable for service in the current system. (SDA)
