The cantonal employment offices received tens of thousands of applications for short-time working during the Corona crisis. According to the parliamentary supervisor, there was not always sufficient checking whether the payments were justified. (archive image)

In its report published on Thursday, the Audit Committee of the National Council (GPK-N) described short-time working as a “useful instrument in the Corona crisis”. However, supervision needs to be strengthened.

From the GPK-N’s point of view, it is also crucial to ensure that ongoing checks on short-time work compensation payments are carried out within the applicable timeframes. This is the only way to ensure that illegally obtained funds can still be recovered from the offending companies.

In total, the monitoring committee formulated seven recommendations for the Federal Council. He can now comment on this until early March. (SDA)
