Deficit 300 million higher: federal government corrects projection of its finances

The federal government is likely to post a deficit of almost 2 billion francs this year. This is what the latest projection estimates. (subject image)

Compared to the June projection, slightly higher ordinary expenditure is assumed (80.4 instead of 80.1 billion francs) – mainly because additional loans and loan overdrafts are expected to be higher, as the Federal Ministry of Finance (EFD) announced on Wednesday has announced. The regular revenue estimate remains unchanged from the June projection.

A deficit of 4.8 billion francs was originally forecast in the 2023 budget. The improvement compared to the estimate is due to the fact that from the current perspective the bailout package for the electricity sector, for which 4 billion euros was budgeted as extraordinary expenditure, is not necessary.
