In 2022, there were significantly more work and leisure accidents in Switzerland. The number of accidents during leisure time in particular has increased sharply. They rose by 12 percent to about 601,000. The main factors that played a role were the abolition of the Corona measures and the sunny and dry weather, Suva and the Swiss Insurance Association (SVV) announced on Tuesday.
But accidents at work and occupational diseases also peaked at around 293,000. The increase within one year was 5.9 percent. The main reason for this is the higher number of employees.
Hot days can have a negative impact
In contrast to leisure accidents, the weather has a smaller impact on the number of occupational accidents. However, according to the report, on hot days with more than 30 degrees, 7 percent more accidents in construction or transport occur than normal.
All accident insurers in accordance with the Accident Insurance Act (UVG) paid out insurance payments worth 5.0 billion francs in 2021. The benefits for 2022 are not yet fully known. On average, approximately 96 percent of all reported accidents and occupational diseases are recognized. (SDA)
