Something historic happened in Basel-Stadt on Sunday. In the future, the canton will only send women to Federal Bern: Patricia von Falkenstein (62, LDP), Sibel Arslan (43, Basta), Sarah Wyss (35, SP), Katja Christ (51, GLP) take part in the National Council for Basel Eva Herzog (61) defended her seat in the Council of States.
With Regina Durrer-Knobel (52), the canton of Nidwalden sends a woman to the National Council for the first time. And the canton of Schwyz, Petra Gössi (47), brought a councilor to Bern for the first time.
Viewed across Switzerland, the situation does not look so rosy. Women’s umbrella organization Alliance F assumes that three fewer seats will be occupied by women in the future than in the 2019 elections. The elections went down in history at the time as women’s elections.
