In the canton of Bern, the SP and SVP each gained a seat in the National Council, the Greens and the FDP each lost one seat, while the other parties retained their vested interests.
The city of Berner Natalie Imboden (53, Green Party) was voted out. And Heinz Siegenthaler (68) was also voted out for the third time. The FDP also cannot defend the seat of the retiring Christa Markwalder (48). Bernese security director Reto Nause (52, center) is now in parliament. Loud cries of “Reto, Reto, Reto!” were heard late that evening at Bern’s town hall, when his election to the National Council was announced.
Several new people are joining the council for the SVP after the party resigned several times. Ernst Wandfluh (47), Katja Riem (27) and Thomas Knutti (50) have been newly elected to the SVP. Ursula Zybach (56) is also new to the SP in the National Council.
In 2019, Federal Councilor Albert Rösti (56) achieved the best result.
