In Aargau, the SVP made huge gains and took back the seventh seat. This is at the expense of the EPP. The national party leader of the small party is flying out of parliament with EPP State Councilor Lilian Studer (45). SVP Grand Councilor Christoph Riner (46) is moving to Bern for them. Otherwise, the distribution of seats remains the same. There is a new face at the SP with Simona Brizzi (50). She replaces the outgoing Yvonne Feri (57).
In the elections for the Council of States, FDP leader Thierry Burkart (48) won in the first round. Behind him, Benjamin Giezendanner (41) achieved a strong result, but he did not miss the absolute extra. It will be exciting to see if the centre-left can agree on a single candidate for the second round of voting to prevent “Giezi junior”. Center candidate Marianne Binder (65) would probably have the best chance, but SP woman Gabriela Suter (50) is just ahead of her in third place. (Russian)
Council of States: Thierry Burkart (FDP), second seat vacant.
National Council: Martina Bircher, Thomas Burgherr, Benjamin Giezendanner, Andreas Glarner, Stefanie Heimgartner, Alois Huber, Christoph Riner (all SVP), Gabriela Suter, Cédric Wermuth, Simona Brizzi (all SP), Marianne Binder-Keller, Andreas Meier (both in the middle ), Maja Riniker, Matthias Jauslin (both FDP), Irène Kälin (Greens), Beat Flach (GLP).
