SVP Councilor Andreas Glarner (61) simply cannot do anything about it. He often provokes and likes to provoke. Just a few days before the elections, he again turned to the Green Party’s national councilor, Sibel Arslan (43), and enlisted her as an involuntary election worker.
With the help of artificial intelligence, the Aargauer allows the Basel woman to advertise herself on X (formerly Twitter). “I want all criminal Turks to be deported,” the artificially generated politician says in a video. And calls for the election of the SVP and for Glarner to be included on the list twice. Even if the title “If Sibel Arslan were honest” is above it, it is fake.
“Legally and politically on thin ice”
With his fake video, Glarner shows how artificial intelligence can be abused. The reactions are also harsh.
“Andreas, even though it’s meant to be funny, I think it goes too far. This is abuse of identity and personality and violation of data protection,” writes one user.
Some are recommending that Arslan take legal action against Glarner for defamation and damage to his reputation.
Even Mitte President Gerhard Pfister (61) is getting involved: “Legally and politically, in my opinion, he is on thin ice here,” he writes on X. “Imagine if a Juso member does the same with Glarner himself. »
Glarner justifies himself
Glarner himself justifies the video: “It was about putting a cheerful end to the election campaign!” he explains to Blick. He does not believe that such a fake video can damage democracy. “That has nothing to do with democracy at all – the film is clearly marked as AI and even the most inexperienced voter knows that Ms Arslan would never say that.”
Sibel Arslan, on the other hand, when asked, writes: “At this time I do not want to comment on it.” (Russian)
