For the third time in a row, more than two billion francs have been donated in Switzerland, as shown in the donation report published on Monday by Swissfundraising and the Zewo Foundation.
Donations from Ukraine contributed largely to last year’s record donation result, approximately 418 million francs. Without taking into account donations from Ukraine, the growth of donations in Switzerland in 2022 was still around two percent.
Twins is becoming increasingly important
Donations for international aid abroad grew by 30 percent, while donations for social security and health care at home stagnated, the report said.
Digital donations are popular, especially via the Twint payment app. Since 2019, the amounts transferred via digital payment methods have increased from 22 million francs to 117 million francs. This means that the transaction volume has increased fivefold in four years.
More and more donations from private households
According to the 2022 report, private household donations exceeded the long-term linear growth trend even more significantly than Corona donations in the previous two years. In German-speaking Switzerland, 7 in 10 donated francs came from private households, while in French-speaking Switzerland this was 6 in 10 francs.
Of the 2.5 billion francs in donations that aid organizations received in total in 2022, 1.51 billion went to aid organizations with the Zewo quality seal. Of the 50 largest aid organizations collecting donations in 2022, 35 will carry the Zewo quality seal.
The Zewo Foundation is the Swiss certification body for non-profit fundraising organizations. Swissfundraising is the professional organization of fundraisers in Switzerland. (dba)
