Foreign Minister Ignazio Cassis (62) wants to discuss the situation in the Middle East at a press conference in Geneva on Friday shortly after noon. The Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs (EDA) announced this on Thursday.

Details about the content of the press conference were initially unknown. The reason for Cassis’ visit to the city of Rhône is the two-day summit of the Geneva Science and Diplomacy Anticipator, which ends on Friday.

Cassis appeared before the media last Monday. He announced that Switzerland was setting up a task force to continuously assess the situation. On Wednesday, the Federal Council announced its intention to classify Hamas as a terrorist organization. To that end, he said he would explore legal options for banning the radical Islamic Palestinian organization.
