Former National Councilor Thomas Ammann passed away

Former National Councilor Thomas Ammann succumbed to cancer on Sunday.

Former national councilor and former mayor of Rüthi SG Thomas Ammann († 58) passed away last Sunday, his family announced. His severe cancer has taken away his physical strength, the statement said.

In 2016, Ammann was diagnosed with an intestinal tumor. Initially, after surgery and further therapies, he wanted to remain in his post. In 2019, however, he was not in the elections for the National Council.

«Love and support in all situations»

“He has shaped our family with his love and support in all situations,”
in his family’s obituary. Ammann loved life and people.

He represented the Canton of St. Gallen in the National Council from 2015 to 2019 and was a member of the Cantonal Council of St. Gallen from 2000 to 2016. He was mayor of Rüthi SG for almost 20 years and was active in various boards and organizations.

Leaves a wife, children and grandchildren

According to his family, Ammann would have liked to continue working in all his duties. “His path in life has come to an end, but his marks remain visible and noticeable in so many places,” the statement said.

Ammann leaves behind his wife Gabi, four adult children and three grandchildren. (sf)
