Fighting has spread from the capital Khartoum to other areas since April 15, the Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs (EDA) said on Wednesday. To meet the sharp increase in humanitarian needs, Switzerland is supporting the non-governmental organization ‘Norwegian Refugee Council’ in Sudan with 500,000 francs.
One million francs will go to the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (Unocha). This will fund projects of local and international non-governmental organizations and UN organizations across the country despite the conflict.
Already spoken 45 million
In South Sudan, 1 million francs each in aid will go to the UN World Food Program and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC). In Chad, 1.5 million francs goes to various UN organizations.
The federal government’s financial contribution to crisis management in Sudan and neighboring countries has so far amounted to more than 45 million francs. Switzerland continues to monitor the situation to adapt support to new needs. In addition to South Sudan and Chad, Egypt is also a refugee destination for people from Sudan. (SDA)
