Mariawegelin hired Junge Tat for her election campaign – and has now temporarily resigned as Winterthur SVP president.

The SonntagsBlick had revealed that the member of “Junge Tat” had worked on election posters for the Junge SVP Thurgau. Manuel C.* (23) designed posters for the National Council elections for the cantonal division. In fact, he himself is a party member of the Junge SVP Thurgau.

This was confirmed by Marco Bortoluzzi, chairman of the Junge SVP canton of Thurgau, at the request of the SDA news agency.

Convicted of hatred of Jews

C., founder and initiator of Junge Tat, was expelled from the Zurich University of the Arts in 2020 because he and his like-minded people disrupted an online lecture with cries of “Heil Hitler”. The public prosecutor convicted him of hatred of Jews and the police seized weapons during house searches.

“Manuel C. has been a member of the Junge SVP Thurgau since the beginning of 2023,” the party also confirmed to SonntagsBlick. However, it is beyond our capabilities to conduct a background check on every new member. The young party has 220 members.

The party distances itself from the politics of ‘Junge Tat’. A board meeting is expected to take place in October: “There we will discuss the expulsion from the party,” says Bortoluzzi.

Already the first consequences

It was announced on Sunday that Winterthur SVP President Mariawegelin (44) temporarily resigned from her position. The National Council candidate collaborated with Junge Tat for her online election campaign. The party wants to discuss the events during an extraordinary meeting. Until then, Wegelin will no longer be president.
