SonntagsBlick’s research does have consequences! As it became known last week, the chairman of the SVP Winterthur and National Council candidate Mariawegelin (44) is working with Junge Tat for her online election campaign.

The two election workers Tobias L.* (21) and Manuel C.* (23) were once convicted of racial discrimination and arrested several times. Further criminal proceedings against her are still ongoing.

After keeping a low profile last week, SVP Winterthur is now announcing an extraordinary general meeting on Sunday. The “Tages-Anzeiger” was the first to report about it on Sunday.

The issue, which is unpleasant for the SVP, should be discussed on October 31. Until then, Wegelin will put her office as party chairman on hold. She decided this in consultation with the party board, the statement said.

Supporters turn away

“As always, SVP Winterthur will not tolerate extremist groups or attitudes in any way, including right-wing extremism,” the statement continued. The party does not want to comment again until after the meeting and has announced that it will not provide any further information until then.

Last week Wegelin told the NZZ that she would remain party chairman. Canton President Domenik Ledergerber had confirmed that the deployment of campaign workers was a private matter.

Wegenin continued in the “NZZ” that she had never heard of the Junge Tat group at the time the contract was awarded. She liked the two young men and there were similarities. In this context, Wegelin mentioned Corona and the federal measures.

The Winterthur Owners’ Association had already withdrawn its support from SVP candidate Wegelin.

Right-wing extremist is an SVP member

Winterthur’s SVP president is not an isolated case. As the Sonntagblick reported, the head of Junge Tat also designed election posters for the Junge SVP Thurgau.

The right-wing extremist Manuel C. is still a member of the Young Party there. The leader of Junge Tat took over the job after an internal call. In a statement, the management of the cantonal department explained to Sonntagblick that it knew nothing about Manuel C.’s background. Insiders dispute this account.

Management also said it was unable to investigate the background of each new member. The party has 220 members.

The young crime is monitored by the federal police (Fedpol). The group rose to prominence when it disrupted an event in Zurich in 2022 where drag queens read books to children.

SVP faction leader Marco Chiesa (48) does not yet want to respond to the investigation.
