Evacuation scenarios need to be planned on a larger scale in Switzerland.

The Federal Council should investigate how Switzerland would be prepared for a very large evacuation and how many people could be evacuated within what time frame. The National Council demands this. On Friday he quietly handed over a corresponding postulate.

Maja Riniker (45), national councilor of the FDP of Aargau, states in her proposal that evacuation scenarios must be conceived and planned on a much larger scale. Addressing mass movements of the civilian population should be one of the authorities’ top priorities in the event of a conflict.

Think beyond the cantonal borders

It makes sense not to limit your thoughts to just one canton, but to think in larger geographic regions. A possible exercise should be considered.

According to Riniker, a spring 2023 study that analyzed the effects of Russia’s war of aggression on the Ukrainian population and the resulting consequences for Swiss civil defense showed potential for improvement. The report required by the Federal Council should close these gaps. (SDA)
