The Federal Office for Customs and Border Security (BAZF) wants to strengthen border protection in Ticino.

Border controls are “currently not an option” for the Federal Council, Justice Minister Elisabeth Baume-Schneider (59) said on the sidelines of the meeting of EU interior ministers in Brussels. They only sent reinforcements to Ticino so that the deployment of personnel could be better planned. According to the federal councilor, it is not about carrying out systematic border controls.

The reason for this is the situation in Lampedusa, where thousands of migrants arrive in Europe in search of a better life.

There are also no signs that Germany wants to introduce border controls with Switzerland, Baume-Schneider answered a journalist’s question. Because Germany had announced that it would systematically check the borders with Poland and the Czech Republic again. (SDA)
