According to the military, two “temporary facilities” used by the Syrian army were targeted.

A few hours earlier, Israel had killed two members of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad militia in a drone strike, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

The Israeli military has not commented on the report of the deadly drone strike. Regarding the tank shots at the Syrian military position, it was said that with the facility in Ain Altina, on the Hermon Mountains, Syria had violated the so-called withdrawal agreement concluded by Israel and Syria in 1974 after the Yom Kippur War.

According to the Syrian Observatory, the positions hit were observation posts used by both the Syrian army and allied militias, and there was no evidence of injuries or deaths. The British-based observatory relies on a wide network of informants. Your information often cannot be independently verified.

After the explosions, smoke could be seen coming from Majdal Shams over the Syrian position. An AFP journalist observed Israeli tanks and bulldozers entering the buffer zone between Syria and Israel. Such operations are permitted under the 1974 Withdrawal Agreement.

Israel has occupied the strategically important Golan Heights since the end of the Six-Day War in 1967 and annexed it in 1981. The international community still does not recognize the annexation to this day.

Since the start of the Syrian civil war, Israel has carried out hundreds of airstrikes on the neighboring country. The army mainly targeted fighters from the Hezbollah militia and other pro-Iranian groups, but also at positions of the Syrian army. (SDA)
