“Very significantly intensified”: State Secretary Fasel wants to intensify explorations with the EU

He mainly came to introduce himself personally, Fasel said after the meeting with representatives of the European Commission. After all, they would have to deal with each other a lot in the near future.

Now the work would be “significantly intensified,” he told a group of Swiss journalists. The new State Secretary continues the exploratory discussions that started under his predecessor Livia Leu. There is talk of a whole package of agreements.

If corresponding progress were made with the EU, but also in the discussions in Switzerland, the conditions for a draft negotiating mandate by the Federal Council would be good by the end of the year, Fasel continued. The 62-year-old took over the position of State Secretary on September 1.
