In recent months, a crack scene has established itself in the Bäckeranlage, a park in Zurich’s district 4. However, the city parliament does not want to rely solely on repression. (archive image)

The majority of the council showed great understanding for the concerned residents. But repression doesn’t help. “That only leads to a shift in the scene,” says Hannah Locher (SP). People wouldn’t just disappear. The other factions and the municipal council also shared this opinion.

Addicts have been settling in the bakery complex in District 4 for several months. The cheap crack drug is now also smoked there during the day. The reason for the growing drug scene is the closure of a nearby drop-in center.

The alternative location in Allmend is too far away for many addicts, so they switch to the centrally located bakery. The city has been looking for a replacement location for a new reporting center for some time, but so far without success. (SDA)
