With 99 votes in favor, 77 votes in favor and 6 abstentions, the National Council decided again on Monday to adopt the indirect counter-proposal. He had already done that a year ago. However, the Council of States did not act on the proposal.

In June, the majority of the Council of States was of the opinion that the target of thirty percent biodiversity areas in accordance with the international Montreal-Kunming Agreement could also be achieved with the existing instruments.

However, the National Council wanted an indirect counter-proposal and followed the Commission for the Environment, Spatial Planning and Energy, which advocated a compromise. Rapid action is needed to slow biodiversity loss. The council rejected requests from the center faction and the SVP not to take action. (SDA)
