Quick action required: thousands at climate demonstrations in Austria

The authorities have not provided information about the number of participants. The climate activists called for quick action against global warming. “Dear politicians, what are you waiting for?” or “Raspberry juice instead of coal-fired power stations,” the posters said. The demonstrators included many young parents and their children. People also took to the streets in cities such as Linz, Graz and Bregenz.

The main demand of the movement in Austria is addressed to Chancellor Karl Nehammer (ÖVP). This should immediately convene a “national climate disaster summit.” The heat waves and sometimes heavy rainfall in parts of Europe have shown the drama of the situation.
