A few weeks before the elections, at least one seat of the Council of States in the canton of Zurich appears to have been filled. Daniel Jositsch (58, SP) received almost half of the votes with 47 percent in a “NZZ” poll before the Zurich elections. So the chances are not bad that he will be elected in the first round.
Behind him it is becoming more and more exciting: Ruedi Noser (62, FDP) is no longer active. The FDP wants to defend the seat with Regine Sauter (57). But it shouldn’t be that easy. The national councilor has caught up compared to the first survey and still has 29 percent. With 31 percent, SVP council colleague Gregor Rutz (50) is still ahead of her. And Center National Councilor Philipp Kutter (48) pushes from behind. He achieved 28 percent. With a margin of error of three percentage points, everything is open.
GLP can probably forget about the seat of the Federal Council for the time being
GLP candidate Tiana Moser (44) lagged behind with 22 percent in the ‘NZZ’ survey. If it misses the elections, the GLP will likely have to bury the Federal Council’s ambitions. Because if the party wants to get involved in the state government, it also needs green-liberal councilors. The party is not yet represented at all in the Small Chamber. But be careful: the second seat will probably require a second round of voting. Depending on the constellation, Moser could ultimately kiss hands if the bourgeois parties steal each other’s votes.
The Greens are threatened with serious losses in the National Council election campaign. The “NZZ” predicts minus 4.2 percentage points. These would be almost two percentage points higher losses than the national party predicts in the SRG surveys. This means that at least one seat will probably be lost. It could happen to Meret Schneider (31) or Katharina Prelicz-Huber (63). The latter was voted out once in 2011 – and made a comeback four years ago. (brother)
