State councilor Bruno Storni (SP/TI) submitted the motion because the construction of infrastructure for snail farming in agricultural areas cannot currently be approved, he said in the council on Wednesday. Snail farming is a clean and ecological branch of agriculture with great potential. In Italy, production has tripled in five years and turnover has increased by 350 million euros.
The Federal Council rejects the motion, but will now submit an amendment to the responsible committee of the Council of States. Accordingly, only “smaller facilities” for snail farming in the agricultural zone should be approved.
