Anyone who has suffered damage from the corona vaccination must receive help. This was decided by the cantonal parliament of Bern.

The cantonal government of Bern must ensure medical care for those affected by corona vaccinations. This includes post-vac consultation hours in public hospitals and therapy offers based on the latest scientific findings.

This is what the Grand Council demands. On Wednesday he unanimously referred the point in question to a motion by Samuel Kullmann (EDU). The government council wanted to have the claim written off as paid. But the majority of the council wanted nothing to do with it.

Don’t downplay the problem

It was important to send a signal in favor of those affected, it was said in the debate. Sibyl Eigenmann (center) noted that the side effects of vaccination are a fact, even if many people don’t want to talk about them. The problem should not be downplayed.

“People have the right to be heard and helped,” says Hannes Zaugg-Graf (GLP). The canton is responsible because it has strongly encouraged the population to get vaccinated, said Reto Zbinden (SVP).

Cantonal contact point

By 145 votes to 1, Parliament also voted in favor of establishing a cantonal contact point for people who have been vaccinated and their relatives. It is also intended to support those affected in applying for insurance and compensation benefits.

About sixty vaccinated people and their family members had already gathered in front of the town hall on Monday. They wanted to draw attention to their plight. The Covid vaccines were used in an extraordinary situation as a measure to combat the pandemic. Extraordinary measures are now needed to counter the harmful effects of the pandemic in terms of vaccine side effects.

No financial compensation

The initiative also called for a cantonal fund to compensate those injured by vaccinations. This is intended to make payments to people who suffered serious side effects from the Covid vaccination for six months or more.

The council rejected this by a vote of 136 to 13. Firstly, they do not want special funds for financial policy reasons, and secondly, it is strange to talk about reparations. This would presuppose culpable behavior on the part of the canton. (SDA)
