Camille Lothe (29) does not mince her words. The president of the city SVP in Zurich was a guest on the program ‘Doppelpunkt’ on Radio 1 last Sunday. She was quite violent against the party leadership and SVP father Christoph Blocher (82).
Lothe bluntly criticized the actions of Blocher and his daughter, SVP National Councilor Magdalena Martullo-Blocher (54), at the start of the major election campaign in Zurich’s ice hockey stadium in August. The two were driven into the stadium on a hay wagon, to the applause of the SVP fans. A production that Lothe can only shake her head about.
Blocher’s appearance is “fake”
The young politician made it unmistakably clear to moderator Roger Schawinski (78) that she finds the appearance hypocritical. When Schawinski asked about it, the whole thing struck her as “completely bogus,” she said. He had asked what she thought about “two multi-billionaires riding up on a hay wagon dressed as farmers.” Is this “real or fake”?
Lothe makes no secret of the fact that she has no connection with the Swiss countryside, whose home and farm party the SVP likes to see herself. “No one will ever buy a pair of jeans and a milkman shirt from me. That’s not me,” says Lothe, who has already posed with an assault rifle in her pink office.
Criticism of city bashing
The SVP president of the city of Zurich has also criticized the national party’s city-bashing in recent years. National Council candidate Lothe is convinced that the campaign against the “left-green parasite cities” in 2021 was a mistake. Playing city against country “was a complete failure”.
For her, as an SVP member in the city, the frontal attack on the cities represented “a great challenge”. It was extremely difficult to explain this to the SVP supporters in the city.
To put into perspective the party leadership’s aversion to everything urban, Lothe recently invited party chairman Marco Chiesa (48) to Zurich. The goal: to show him “that the city is not completely lost.” (lha)
